A place to store and research our rich history
To the Marcus Community and Surrounding Area:
The Marcus Historical Society raised $155,000 through donations and grants, for the construction of a new building. In addition we needed a $20,000 loan to complete the building. Through your support we have paid off our loan in one year and have grown from the Reed Center, located downtown, to our new location at the Fairgrounds Village site.
Thank you so much for your support.
The outside of the new building is complete, including the old-time store fronts. A picture is located on the front page of this website. The Marcus Fair Board installed landscaping and walking paths around the building. The inside of the building is complete.
Among the current displays is memorabilia of Dr. Joynt, including his 1929 Ford car and all the births he performed, a Marcus Fair ticket booth with DVD of old Fair footage, Marcus churches, and Marcus veterans.
During the 2014 Fair the new building was open for touring. We welcomed many visitors and sold many copies of our new book of reminiscences, Our Heritage.
To see our progress, call for a tour of our new building by contacting Sherree Ogren or Jim Nielsen, or visit our open house from 2-4 pm each month on the second Sunday.
Donations and memorials may be sent to the address below or given to any of the people listed.
