Linda Spieler reports the July 2010 newsletters have been mailed to out of town members-all members present received a copy tonight and extras will be available for hand out during the Fair. Arlene Hollenbeck reports on the plans for the upcoming Cemetary walk-it will be Oct. 2nd. Methodist Church wil be the site for program after the tour of grave sites. The Trolley/Transportation is set to go again, 6 families have been scheduled to present their family history. Nancy Heier plans to be available to help again. Arlene asks for volunteers to prepare and serve refreshmens--Bev Nielsen, Bonnie H and Fern C. offer to help. Linda, Jerry, Rita and Arlene will be changing the window display at the Main st building soon. Arlene also plans to display "unidentified" pictures of Marcus residents on the website to ask for identification and historic information. Bonnie reports an update on the Centennial DVD's. The 40 copies we ordered have arrived and are very professionally done. There wil be an increase in the cost however and she had to make some changes in the "printed" version of the description of the pictures which will be given out with the DVD's. Bonnie has also received some pictures of the Alter area of the Danish Church, (before it was designed to the way it is now) from the Simonsen family.
Jim reports on the arrival of the Dr. Joynt Model A Ford 1929 vehicle! We need to get a Cherokee Co. Iowa license plate soon. After some discussion and a vote taken, it was decided to have a "Personalized" license plate made (MOD A 29). Also discussed was possibly having a magnetized metal sign made, with Dr. Joynt's name and MHS as owner to be placed on the side doors of the car. Don Specht offers to look into this possibility. It was also suggested to offer "chances" to take a ride in the car during the fair. Motion made to sell tickets at the Fair Booth, to have a ride on Sunday evening. The "theme" of the fair booth will again be "remember when" with many of the Dr. Joynt items on display and the availibility of "selling" copies of the pages out of the Dr. Joynt's birth record book. We will also be selling "chances" on the quilt, donated by Bonnie Means.
A motion made, seconded & carried to approve the new Insurance Policies for the car and our building that had been presented last month by John Carey of Farmers State Agency.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
