Marcus
Historical Society Meeting
September 7,
2006
The Marcus Historical Society met on Thursday, September 7 at
7:00 pm in the Main Street Marcus offices of City Hall.
Present: Rita Delperdang, June Dias, Margaret Dorr, Galen
Ducommun, Thelma Gravenish, Marian Johnson, Jerry Meylor, Rod
Ogren, Sherree Ogren, Gerald Pallesen, Mary Peterson, Don
Specht, Faith Specht, and Jim Wiese.
The meeting was opened with correspondence and blogspot
postings read from Bob Reed, David & Patti (Wallin) Snyder,
Julie (Meylor) Simpson, Laurel Johnson, and Byrle Gross Jr.
All of these people live outside the immediate area yet are
supportive and encouraging to the Historical Society.
The Treasurer Report was accepted as read.
The success of the Historical Society Fair booth was
discussed. We gave ourselves a round of applause for winning
the Ray Addy Award for the Best Commercial Booth of the 2006
Marcus Fair. We still need to return the feedback survey from
the Fair Board.
We reviewed the visit from State Curator Jerome Thompson.
Further evaluation needs to be done before the Society makes
an offer to purchase any real property. A decision of this
magnitude should be done after the Executive Board is elected
and an official vote by the membership can take place.
A file is in place for all members to log their volunteer
hours.
Elections for the Executive Board need to take place as soon
as possible. Membership dues must be paid prior to
participation in the election process. There are seven
nominees for the Executive Board: June Dias, Jerry Meylor,
Jim Nielsen, Gerald Pallesen, Mary Peterson, Maxine Shea, and
Jim Wiese. Members will elect five persons to the Board. The
Board will then select its own officers. Ballots will be
mailed to all members and must be returned by mail no later
than September 23, 2006. Sherree Ogren will donate envelopes
and postage to mail the ballots out. Margaret Dorr and Thelma
Gravenish will be tallying the votes.
The next meeting of the Marcus Historical Society, and the
first meeting of the Executive Board, will be held on Tuesday,
September 26, 2006 at 7:00pm. Future regular meetings will be
held on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Respectfully Submitted,
June Dias, Chair
