Marcus
Historical Society Meeting
November 27,
2007
The Marcus Historical Society met Tuesday, November 27 at the
Reed Center.
The minutes of the October meeting were approved as published
in the Marcus News.
The treasurer reported balances of $2,677.89 in checking and
$1,700.08 in savings. Gutters have been installed at a
cost of $711. Other bills included paint, utilities, and
postage. Income included the sale of another plaque
plate, memberships (new and renewals), and the sale of cards
and calendars. $75 in donations were received the night
of the "Light On at Museums" open house. An additional
$500 grant check has been received from Julia Meylor Simpson's
employer, Amica Insurance.
Mary Peterson and Sherree Ogren have done some interior
painting. Fill dirt was delivered by Steve Galigan and
placed around the foundation by Les Peterson. The
Society wishes to express sincere thanks to these people.
A space has been reserved at the Festival of Trees and a tree
will be decorated. Historical Society calendars and
playing cards will be offered for sale.
Building security was discussed and suggestions were offered.
More research will be done.
The need for an accessions committee with and out-of-town
"expert" to serve as a sometime curator was discussed.
Accessions guidelines need to be written. Brian Nelson
made the suggestion that members visit other small museums to
find out about their policies and holdings. He
volunteered to arrange a fact-finding trip to the historical
society house at Aurelia as they are a town similar in size to
Marcus. This is to be done before the next meeting which
is scheduled for January 22, 2008. (No meeting the 4th
Tuesday of December, Christmas Day.)
The meeting adjourned.
Members present: Bonnie Husman, Brian Nelson, Sherree
Ogren, Fran Briggs, Linda Wheeler, Jerry Meylor, Arlene
Hollenbeck, Mary Peterson, Faith Specht, Maxine Shea, and June
Dias.
Respectfully submitted,
Maxine Shea, Secretary
