Historical Society Meeting

The Marcus Historical Society met in a special session Sunday,
February 11, 2007 at the Farmers State Bank Meeting room.
The treasurer reported a balance on hand of $1,587.90.
A proposed revision of Article VI of the Constitution was
read: "This constitution may be amended by two-thirds vote of
the members present and voting at any regular meeting,
provided that the proposed amendment has been read at a
previous meeting and made available to the general membership
by posting on the website
www.MarcusHistoricalSociety.org." After discussion,
Jim Nielsen moved, seconded by Bonnie Husman to amend the
proposed amendment to read as follows: "This
constitution may be amended by two-thirds vote of the members
present and voting at any regular meeting provided that the
proposed amendment has been read at a previous meeting and
made available to the general membership by posting on the
website
www.MarcusHistoricalSociety.org and at City Hall."
Motion carried. This served as the first reading of the
revision.
A proposed amendment to Article II Sec 2 C of the Bylaws was
read as follows: "Secretary - Keeps a written record of
each meeting and conducts correspondence on behalf of the
Society." There was no discussion. This served as
the first reading of this revision.
A site selection discussion was held regarding the purchase of
the Danish Church building. After consideration of a
number of options, Jim Nielsen moved seconded by Sherree Ogren
to make a $5,000 cash offer for the structure, the offer to
remain open for 30 days (until March 11) with a proposed
closing date of May 1. Motion carried. Bob and
Maxine Reed have been contacted and would provide money for
the purchase.
Mary Peterson moved, seconded by Jim Nielsen to adjourn.
Members present: June Dias, Jim Nielsen, Jerry Meylor,
Jim Wiese, Maxine Shea, Mary Pterson, Elaine Rassel, Linda
Wheeler, Sherree Ogren, and Bonnie Husman.
